In Partnership with New York Administration of Children’s Services adoptive families from across New York City were brought together for an impactful GLAM4GOOD day of giving eye care and eyewear, new wardrobes and first family portraits in celebration of November’s Adoption Awareness Month. GLAM4GOOD honored, empowered and celebrated these foster care children and the loving families adopting them with an inspiring and important initiative, titled #LOVEMAKESAFAMILY, culminating in the families getting their first family portrait taken by fashion photographer Kate Powers at Milk Studios.
“I was so honored to be a part of this powerful initiative, witnessing all of the commitment to love and family. Having a chance to photograph these beautiful families was incredibly inspiring. Thank you GLAM4GOOD for the important work you do and for including me in this special project!”
With support from some of the world’s most influential brands and retailers – including Dressbarn, JCrew, Saturdays, Puma, Inez, Dee Ocleppo, FabFitFun, and UNOde50 – GLAM4GOOD’s charitable efforts donated over $100,000 in new work wardrobes, school wardrobes, toys, personal care essentials and self-esteem enhancing products and services to honor and celebrate these heroic families.
“National Adoption Month is a reminder of the true gift that adoption is to so many families. Thank you to GLAM4GOOD, and everyone who participated in the #LOVEMAKESAFAMILY celebration, for recognizing the extraordinary efforts of adoptive families across New York City. And, most importantly, thank you to the adoptive parents who have opened their hearts to provide safe and loving homes to the City’s most vulnerable young people.”
Throughout the day, GLAM4GOOD empowered these families with personal care services, new school and work wardrobes, hair cuts, makeup consults, and new clothing for each family’s first official portrait together. Additionally, VSP Global, was on-site with VSP network doctors who helped to provide eye exams and prescription glasses at no cost to the families and their children. Many of these children never had their eyes examined, making this a unique and special addition to this initiative. Over 75% of the patients which VSP network doctors examined during the initiative needed corrective eyewear. Recipients choose from popular designer frame brands donated by Marchon Eyewear which best suited their personal style.
“Vision care is important for everyone, but it can be especially significant for an adoptive child whose health history may not be easily accessible to their forever family. Through an eye exam we can assess the health of your eyes as well as your overall health and therefore can detect signs of inherited diseases that might have otherwise gone undetected.”
With support from some of the world’s most influential brands and retailers – including Dressbarn, JCrew, Saturdays, Puma, INEZ, and UNOde50 – GLAM4GOOD’s charitable efforts pampered these families and their adopted children for a day they will never forget. Alongside GLAM4GOOD stylists and influencers, the families and their adopted children had a chance to get styled in Dressbarn’s latest collection and Dressbarn volunteers were onset helping style the families for their first portraits. Hair and Makeup icons Rommy Najor, Angie Parker, Moiz Alladina and Edwin Pabon as well as celebrity stylist James Worthington Demolet, influencer Christina Grasso, Creative Director Melisa Goldie, GLAM4GOOD Founderand style &beauty expert Mary Alice Stephenson and publicist Jennifer Crawford (all GLAM4GOOD board members), were on hand to help these families look their best.
